The Health Ministry Committee will again hold a Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) Class for women in the congregation and community. Annually, nearly 100,000 women report being victims of rape, and a significant number of rapes or attempted rapes are never reported. Over 1500 are reported annually in Harris County alone. The Rape Aggression Defense System is a comprehensive class of realistic, self-defense tactics and techniques for women, taught by the Harris County Sheriff’s Department. The Harris County Sheriff’s Dept. has the largest RAD program of any law enforcement agency in the United States. RAD is based on awareness, risk reduction, avoidance strategies, situational dynamics and basic physical defense principles. The RAD system is dedicated to teaching women defensive concepts and techniques against various types of assault in five sessions. The classes are free of charge.
