Missions

Domestic and foreign mission trips are offered each year to give members the opportunity to reach out to those in need outside of our Houston community. As of December 31, 2006, Clear Lake UMC sent teams to Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, Alaska, Costa Rica, Mexico and Africa plus 39 UM Army Camps and Basic Training.

You are invited to serve on a mission team or serve as Mission Doves (Prayer partners) for each of our missioners.

Our covenant Mission Partners -

Jerri & Bill Savuto...

have been serving in Kenya.
They are with the Board of Global Ministries.

Our church has donated $2,500,00
to their ministry.

Mission Projects
(Partners in Mission)

Purpose:
We believe that Christians are truly called to missions by God through Jesus Christ. Mission projects provide an outreach to those in need throughout the world. Participants are truly blessed by serving and witnessing in love.

Description:
Mission projects range from a single day to two weeks and typically involve youth through adults. Each year CLUMC commits to lead our members on several trips both national and international. We work with the Texas Conference Partners in Missions to pick trips that will benefit those in need as well as fit the skills of our congregation. Typically, trips involve 10 – 20 members that plan the trip and travel together to their destination. The mission projects are usually construction and/or medical in nature. Many times vacation bible school is taught so there is something for everyone. Team members eat, sleep, fellowship, and worship together. The accommodations range from nice hotels to camping. The work team performs specific repairs and/or full building construction. They meet with members of the congregation and participate in worship services at many of the sites. Hard work, recreational activities and spiritual growth are all part of the Mission Project experience. People of all ages are needed and welcome. CLUMC provides a small portion of the trip cost but the participants must pay most of the cost. There is financial aid available through Partners in Mission.

Volunteer Roles:

» Team Leader – A person that has gone on a previous mission trip and that has taken the Leader Training through Partners in Mission. The team leader is responsible for organizing the trip which includes arranging transportation, communicating with site persons, holding team meetings, collecting all money and making payments to the appropriate organizations on time. They are spiritually mature, responsible for work team safety and love mission projects. They submit expense statements at the end of the trip to CLUMC and PIM. They do not need construction or medical experience.

» Participant - Attend the pre-trip meetings to get to know what is expected and to grow as a team. They may wish to volunteer to coordinate a variety of aspects of the trip such as equipment, food, devotions, and R & R. Nothing is required except a willing heart and a joyful spirit. There is always plenty of activity on a trip and room for everyone to learn something new. You may be interacting with all ages of folks on the team as well as clients at the mission site. If it is an international trip involving a language other than English, a translator is usually provided. Those skilled in Spanish are of great need for many of the trips.

» Mission Project Leader(s) – Responsible for recruiting Team Leaders and coordinating a mission committee. Helps the Team Leaders with any of the many items involved in the specific trips. Will communicate project details through the CLUMC paper and bulletin. Also coordinates monthly breakfasts (4 th Sunday) and other events. Reports activities to Ministry Purpose Team. Attends PIM functions as needed
