Helping Hands

Purpose:
Repair homes and clean up yards of people in need.

Description:
Do one or two-day work projects involving adults and youth. The projects require some home-repair, minor construction, or yard work skills. We typically do 3 or 4 big projects a year. Clients usually live in the neighborhood served by CLUMC. Most are low-income or disabled.

Volunteer Roles:

» Participant
Can be anyone who likes to help others. Skill depends on the project, but unskilled workers can also be used.

» Project Manager
Someone with organizing skill and expertise in the particular project. Serves as the main contact with the client. Understands the client’s needs. Often requires scoping out the work, doing material take-offs, purchasing supplies, determining people required, and coordinating the work.

» Helping Hands Leader
Responsible for coordinating the Helping Hands group. With CLUMC staff, determines which projects to do. Recruits volunteers. Maintains list of volunteers. Reports activities to Ministry Purpose Team. Prepares and stewards budget. Submits expense statements to CLUMC treasurer.
