Clear Lake UMC Pedalers Raise Funds
for MS & Share the Gospel
This past April, 38 members and friends of Clear Lake UMC, partnering with members of other churches, rode their bicycles approximately 160 miles from Houston to Austin. The team was riding as part of the 2007 MS150 – a fundraising ride by 13,000 bicyclists to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis (a disease that afflicts more than 17,000 Texans and their families).
The team raised a team history best of more than $36,000 while the entire ride raised a record breaking $12.3 million!
Experience levels ranged from MS150 first timers all the way up to 13-ride veterans. Ages ranged from 17 to 65. Some riders elected to make it a family affair including both spouses, father/daughter, father/son and father-in-law/son-in-law combinations. Also, team members lived as far away as Salt Lake City, Utah and Atlanta, Georgia with several also coming from San Antonio.
The Clear Lake UMC team was supported by a terrific squad of volunteers and family members who coordinated personal gear and food throughout the weekend. The volunteers provided invaluable encouragement and monitored the progress of team members while on the road. The team was also blessed with the presence of two gifted massage therapists!
The accompanying team photo was taken outside of First UMC La Grange where the team overnighted in much-appreciated air conditioning and relative comfort. After taking this picture, the team held a brief devotional based on the book “The Hidden Adventure” by Tim Hansel where they were reminded of the journey Christ takes each of us on our spiritual two-seater bikes when we let him steer our lives.
