Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPR)
Description:
The Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPR) is the Human Relations department for the church. It is responsible for all of the staffing and their needs. The SPR committee is specified in the Book of Discipline in Section 262.2. Each committee member is assigned approximately three staff members, and they are expected to contact these staff members regularly.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Gifts Needed
The main needs for a SPR member is to be spiritual, conscientious, confidential, and level-headed. You must be able to listen to all sides of the issue and then make a decision letting the Holy Spirit be your guide. A member should also have very good people skills.
Meeting Schedule
The SPR meets on the 1st Thursday of every month for about 1.5 to 2 hours. Additional meetings are sometimes necessary on rare occasions. Temporary hiring committees formed to fill a vacancy will meet more often to interview candidates to fill the position.
Time Investment Required
Typically a committee member might need 3-5 hours per month to do the job. This would include meeting time and time allowed to meet or call their staff members.

There are nine committee members and the Senior pastor.
Contribution to Ministry of CLUMC
This committee enables the staff and church to perform their individual ministries.
Other Comments
An SPR member is nominated by the Lay Leadership Committee and is expected to serve a 3-year term.
