Advent Sermon Series

We celebrate many things during the Advent and Christmas season. For most, it is a time filled with joy and excitement. For some it can be a time of sorrow or loneliness. We all need to be reminded that God is at work in our lives and in the world around us. It can be tempting - amidst the rush and distractions of the season - to miss the ways that God is working, always fulfilling his promises to His people.
This series will explore the miracles of the Christmas story and remind us all that God is at work - even today - in amazing and wonderful ways.

Week 1 - November 30 - "Working in the Silence"
During the "silent period" between the Old and New Testaments, we have no biblical record of the work of God. However, this period is full of events that changed the course of human history and set the stage for the birth of Christ. We will explore the idea that even when He is silent, God is still working. Even in our loneliness, God is near and will always keep His promise to us.

Week 2 - December 7 - "Miraculous Conception"
Week 3 - December 14 - "Armies of Angels"
Week 4 - December 21 - "A Cosmic Occurrence"
Christmas Eve - December 24 - "The Smallest Miracle"

Hanging of the Green, Sunday, November 30

Sunday, Nov. 30, Sanctuary, During Traditional Services

The “Hanging of the Green” service is one of the most beloved traditions at Clear Lake UMC. We always begin the Advent season by adorning our Sanctuary with beautiful decorations – Christmas tree, poinsettias, angels, wreaths and garland. This year, Advent begins on Sunday, November 30. “Hanging of the Green” is a service for everyone in our church family.

Amahl and the Night Visitors Sunday, November 30

Abilene Christian University Opera Presents: Amahl and the Night Visitors

Presented by the Abilene Christian University Opera Department, Amahl is a Christmas favorite and has the distinction of being the first opera written for television. It is a 50-minute production which has a young child as its central character. A love offering will be received at the end of the presentation.
There are openings in the chorus (your part must be memorized) for children (grades 2-5), youth and adults. If you are interested, contact danielle@clearlakemethodist.org or call 832-240-4713. You will be working alongside ACU students who will also be in the chorus. Required rehearsals include Saturday morning and afternoon, November 29 as well as Sunday afternoon, November 30.
