Shadowland: Sunday Morning Connect Series (July 13 – 27)

Have you ever turned on the news only to wish you hadn't?
Answered a phone call only to wish you could un-hear the news on the other end?
Whether it's a global disaster, a school shooting, our parents' divorce,
or the death of a friend, there's nothing fun about learning of a tragedy.
It can make us feel like we are walking through a shadowland,
where nothing seems quite right and there are more questions than answers.
What do we say? What do we do? What happens next? How long will it take?
At some point, we will all face a shadowland, but that doesn't mean we have to stay there.
There is a way through to the other side of tragedy to healing
but getting there means we have to trust the One who is leading us.

Clear Lake UMC Youth Choir Reunion, Marvin Gaspard Trio and Jazz Communion

Sunday, August 3 will be an opportunity for former members of the Clear Lake UMC Youth Choir to come together and lead our congregation in worship. If you have ever been a member of the Clear Lake UMC Youth Choir during its 50 year history, please join us! We’ll meet together on Saturday morning, August 2, 10am-12Noon. We’ll enjoy lunch (Dutch treat) at an area restaurant after the rehearsal. If you can’t make the Saturday rehearsal, join us on Sunday morning, August 3 at 8:30am in the Choir Room. We’ll sing for the 9:30 and 11am Traditional Worship services. Our congregation is grateful to God for the marvelous, rich history of our music ministry through the years. Let’s enjoy a weekend of making music to the Lord and renewing old friendships!
The Marvin Gaspard Trio will be joining us again for Jazz Communion services on August 3. Our order of service will remain the same! However, you will experience Marvin’s personal touch in the arrangements of the congregational hymns, choral anthems, communion responses and instrumental pieces. As Director of Music/Organist-Choirmaster at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church, Marvin’s music is undergirded by his faith and deeply spiritual approach to playing the piano. He is the published composer/arranger of both sacred and secular choral octavos, organ/piano duet books, and children’s folk music. Marvin is the resident pianist for The Lyric Centre in the heart of Houston’s Theater District.

New Summer Youth Group Series – Philippians

This summer, we will be delving into the book of Philippians each Sunday night during Youth Group. This includes our special Sunday nights such as Water Night at Youth Group on Sunday, June 29.

Renovations, New Director and More Exciting Things in Student Ministry!

Have you ever remodeled part of your house? What about torn down stairs to build a wheelchair ramp at U.M. ARMY? There’s always that moment when things get messy, when they get scary and you start to wonder if the sink in your bathroom will forever be removed from the wall or if your client will be left with postholes dug in their yard instead of a wheelchair ramp. It’s not news that change is scary and that as time passes in any season, renovations take place.
This is the season that our Student Ministry has been in – a season of renovation and change. If you’ve been back in the Student Ministry Wing lately, you’ll have noticed it’s not the same area it was just a few months ago. A wall has been taken out of the TV Room. There is a new ceiling in the Footprints Room. We’ve updated the lighting and there is brand new carpet running throughout the area. This physical renovation has not only served as a physical reminder of the season the Student Ministry is in, but the one the ministry is heading into next.
It’s no secret that during this season the Student Ministry lost some wonderful and much beloved individuals. As we’ve headed into summer though, we’ve had several new faces around the Student Ministry Wing. After being without a Student Director for several months, we are excited to announce that our new Student Director, Denise Duke, begins on July 1. We cannot express the joy and excitement surrounding her coming on staff. She is an incredible individual with a passion for reaching students both within the ministry and taking ministry outside the walls of the church to reach those who are not yet connected.
With all of the renovations that have taken place, we didn’t formally announce that Ashley Karlen came on as our Student Ministries Interim Programs Assistant in March. She has been an asset in helping continue the ministry through this season of renovation by continuing to plan programs including a new look for summertime in Student Ministry with a Summer Calendar packed with activities, as well as helping Bill Cooke head up U.M. ARMY.

We’re also pleased to have Jordan Marschke and Harrison Sellars serving as our Summer Student Ministry Interns as they build relationships with students, spread the message of Christ and help serve in making this a sustainable ministry area.
