| Why do churches have revival? By Lillie Ferrell The e-Team (Evangelism Team) asked Tony to recognize August as evangelism month at Clear Lake United Methodist Church. Therefore, we planned an old-fashioned Church Revival and sermon series to launch our evangelism activities. The theme for the revival and sermon series is: “One+One” (invite someone to come!). This means you as one person who knows Christ will invite one other person to come to at least one worship service with you during the month of August. If everyone in the church invites just one person to worship with them in August we should double our monthly church attendance. Some of you may be thinking: “Why do churches have revival? Is it really necessary?” To quote W.A. Criswell: “Revivalists and evangelists are God’s “grace gifts” to the church supplementing, complimenting, and completing the pastor’s and teacher’s work throughout the year.” Sometimes as saints we grow a little weary and need to be encouraged or refueled along our Christian journey. Revival is like adding more fuel to our hearts of flame to make them burn brighter for the Lord. Here are three reasons that we need church revival: 1. Revival is a catalyst for change and enables the church to reaffirm our personal commitment for continuing evangelism throughout the year which enables the church to reap a harvest year round. 2. Revival helps the saints to remember Jesus is our first love and not be just lukewarm for Jesus but to have a passion for Jesus which makes his passions become our passions! Jesus clearly demonstrated that he had a passion to reach out to the lost, the last and the least. 3. Revival reminds us that we as God’s co-laborers should be persistent in praying for others who are lost. We should be intentional about bringing our family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc to revival services with us to share in this time of rejuvenation and restoration. Finally, I believe the main reason we need revival is that Revival encourages us to focus on being in the “presence of God” rather than doing “programs for God.” Revival helps us to look inward to see what kind of spiritual fruit we are producing. Revival helps us to look outward to see others that we need to share Christ with. Therefore, I encourage you to begin praying at looking outward to see who you should invite to both the revival and to at least one worship service church during August. |
Mark your calendars now for the Clear Lake United Methodist Church August Revival! Our format will be a little different this year. We will have 3 consecutive nights of Revival Services: Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights. Dinner will be served at 5:30pm and the Revival Service will begin promptly at 6pm in Wesley Center. RSVP for dinner in Sunday's Bulletin or call the church office at 281-488-5110. Please come to the Revival even if you don’t attend the meal! Bring your family, friends and neighbors to celebrate Christ!

He had previously served as the Houston Northwest District Superintendent for four years. He was also the pastor of McCabe Roberts Avenue United Methodist Church.
A graduate of Stephen F. Austin University and Perkins School of Theology - Southern Methodist University, he received the Doctor of Ministry degree from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois.
The clergy membership of the Texas Annual Conference elected him to serve as a delegate to the 2004 and 2008 General Conference. He was chosen as a 2000, 2004 and 2008 delegate to the Jurisdictional Conference. In 2001 Dr. Stansell was a delegate to the World Methodist Conference in Brighton, England.
Dr. Stansell has earned a reputation as a dynamic preacher and preaches several revivals throughout the year. His preaching has earned him the Harry Hoosier Preacher's Award. We are in for such a treat to have Dr. Stansell as our guest preacher.
